Universal Studios Hollywood

A couple of weeks ago on the Dis Unplugged: Disneyland Edition podcast Mary-Jo and Nancy talked about their recent trip to Universal Studios Hollywood.  We are off to California soon and it got me thinking, I need to have a look at the Park Map. It has been 7 years since we last visited this park and a lot has changed!

I found the park map from that 2009 trip:Compared with the current map:

I can’t wait to do everything! but there are a few things I am excited to experience:

  • The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, I have only experienced the Orlando version once a few years ago.
  • I also can’t wait to do Studio Tour, this is something they don’t have at Orlando.
  • I have yet to experience the Transformers ride too…so this will be a must do too 🙂.

What is your favourite attraction at Universal Studios, Orlando, Hollywood or Both?!

The Pit Smokehouse, Culcheth – My Review

The Pit Smokehouse in Culcheth is a new (ish, I originally started this review months ago!!!) restaurant, it opened in September 2015. It took over a building which had been empty for some time, it used to be Duck Egg Blue and was something else in between for a short while…but I can’t remember what!!

We first heard about the restaurant at the beginning of 2015, it took a long time to open…however I have to say it does not disappoint. The Pit Smokehouse is a BBQ restaurant that offers smoked and slow cooked meats, Rib, Pulled Pork, Brisket.

Our first visit to the Pit back in October 2015,  a month or so after it had opened. I started off with a ‘Nutty Nutella’ milkshake, it was delicious, but just not big enough!!

We then ordered an ‘Onion bomb’ and Nachos for starters.

Both were very nice but I would definitely recommend sharing, as at this point, we were already quite full!! But we ploughed on.

I had the BBQ Pulled Pork with Sweet Potato fries and I really cannot remember what hubby had!! Some sort of beef:

After all this food, unfortunately, we had no room for dessert 😦 I had my eyes on the marshmallows. Oh well, there is always next time!

On subsequent return visits, we managed to sample the Marshmallows, you get two big marshmallows, chocolate dip, strawberry dip and sprinkles…the best part is that yo also get a flame so you can toast your marshmallows right at your table 😃

Other things we have tried off the menu include:

Some shots of the menu:

I would definitely recommend this restaurant, but you need to book!

Disneyland to-do list

My favourite Disney podcast, the DIS Unplugged have recently had a month long series of Podcasts for the Disneyland 60th celebration. It got me thinking; I need to write a must-do for when I visit in September…and what better place to do that…here on my blog!

I have been to Walt Disney World so many times, but this will be just my 4th trip to Walt’s park.  Previous trips have only been a day or two, this time, I will be getting a five-day park hopper 😵 how cool is that!

Disneyland Park

  • Jolly Holiday Bakery for the macaroons and macarons
  • It’s a Small World, Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean…just so I can compare them to Walt Disney World!
  • Pinocchio’s daring adventure
  • Mr Toad’s Wild Ride
  • Matterhorn Bobsleds
  • Mickey’s Toontown, I really miss Toontown since it was closed at Walt Disney World.
  • Hyperspace Mountain,  am not a fan of this attraction at Walt Disney World.

California Adventure

  • Animation Academy, this was one of my favourite attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and it is so sad that it has gone, I hope they relocate it somewhere else.
  • Soarin around the world – I loved Soarin’ and am very sad to see it go, but I am looking forward to experiencing the new film and where better than Disneyland!
  • Paint the Night Parade
  • World of Color – not sure whether this will be the 60th version or the original one…either way I don’t mind as I have never experienced it at all.
  • Rope drop
  • Afternoon parade
  • Cars Land
  • Toy Story Midway Mania! I love this attraction.
  • Lobster Nachos at the Cove Bar – There is a DIS Unplugged video with Ryno and Tom.
  • Cozy cone Motel for food!
  • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror – recent rumours have been confirmed that this will be closing in 2017 and being re-themed as Guardians of the Galaxy, so it will be good to experience it before it changes.
  • Monsters Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue!

Disneyland has just released the dates for Halloween time and there will be two parties on whilst we are in Anaheim…Mickey’s Halloween party is a big must for me.

It is a pretty big list! I don’t know when I will be back so I want to fit in as much as possible.

I can’t wait to do it!
