Mermaid Cupcake – My Review

I sampled the new Mermaid cupcake which is available from the Main Street Bakery at Magic Kingdom (it debuted on June 5th).

It is a vanilla cupcake full of sprinkles of colour, topped with a sea foam green butter cream, crispy pearls and a Mermaid tail sugar cookie.

It costs $5.99 and looks awesome. The sugar cookie and butter cream are the best part of this cupcake. The cupcake is moist but I much prefer the Millennial Pink cupcake at Epcot (read my review)

I give it 10 out of 10 for looks and 8 out of 10 for taste.

Toy Story Land opening date announced!!!

The date of Toy Story Land at Disney Hollywood Studios was announced live on Good Morning America on Friday, February 16th…June 30th, 2018. Disney even brought a piece of the land to New York City’s Times Square – Slinky Dog 🐕. Slinky Dog Dash is one of the new attractions, along with Alien Swirling Saucers. The ever-popular Toy Story Midway Mania has been open since 2008 and will receive a new entrance within the land once the land opens.

How exciting, but at the same time how frustrating…we will be in Walt Disney World from June 1st thru’ 15th 🙁. On the bright side more reason to go again…soon!

Are you excited about Toy Story Land, or are you waiting for Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge?

Getting around Walt Disney World

If you stay onsite at Walt Disney World there are many different transportation options for getting to the parks: bus, boat, train and monorail.

At the D23 Expo in July two new modes of transport were announced; Disney Skyliner and Minnie Vans.

The Disney Skyliner is a gondola transportation system high in the sky.  It will connect EPCOT to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, and the new DVC Riviera resort.

I love the look of this transport, however, I am now sure I would like to be on it in the Florida thunder storms which are prevalent in the summer!!

The Minnie vans are Disney’s version of Uber.  You can travel anywhere in the ‘world’ in your Minnie van with you own knowledgeable driver.  When it first launched it had a limited service with only guests of Disney’s BoardWalk Resort and Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts being able to use the service.  Disney has partnered with Lyft and you can book the Minnie van through the Lyft app.  Lyft is not yet available in the UK so I have never used it, I will download the app and maybe I will get a Minnie Van!

Has anyone used the Minnie Vans, what did you think?

Lake Buena Vista Resort Village & Spa – My Review

Lake Buena Vista Resort Village & Spa is located approx. 3 miles to the gateway to Walt Disney World on Epcot Center Drive. It has condominium-style accommodations with 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom apartments.

Lake Buena Vista has lots of amenities which include spa and fitness centre, shop with Pizza Hut, Outdoor Pirate themed swimming pool and also a quieter pool. There is also Frankie Farrell’s Pub & Grille onsite. There are meeting facilities and a business centre for people staying here on business.

Check-in was fast and efficient.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite in the main building, due to this in order to go up in the lift we had to use our key card each time – this reassured us that no one could just walk in and wander around the floors.

The living room, dining room and Kitchen are all open plan, the private balcony is off the living room via large patio doors. There is a glass topped dining table with seating for 6 people. A breakfast bar leads to the kitchen which has plenty of kitchenware, including a huge fridge/freezer with ice maker for preparing those meals you may have at home.

Living Area

The Master Bathroom is huge! With a Super King (Queen in US terms) size bed, spa bath, walk in closet, shower 2 wash basins with under storage and separate toilet.

There are ceiling fans in all rooms and air conditioning.

High-speed wireless internet is complimentary, we had no problems with it during the 2 weeks we stayed there.

The decor is looking a little tired, the rooms could do with a rehab to freshen and modernise them.

I would highly recommend Lake Buena Vista, it is a fantastic location for Disney for off-property accommodations and close to Walmart for all your provisions.

Have you ever stayed here, what do you think?

My Favourite Restaurants in Disney and Beyond…

What better time to tell you about my favourite restaurants at Disney and surrounding area. I am looking forward to visiting these next month (much sooner than I had anticipated a few weeks ago)

Victoria & Albert’s – Disney’s Grand Floridian

Victoria & Albert’s is a very exclusive, awarding winning, fine dining establishment located inside Disney’s Grand Floridian, it has  an AAA Five Diamond rating. As expected the dress code is much more formal than most other dining in Disney, men must wear a Jacket and a posh frock would not be out of place for us ladies. Throughout the evening a Harpist places gentle music in the background which sets the scene beautifully. The meal itself is a seven course meal (including bread with each course – I love bread and the selections are amazing) in the main dining room (more course are available in Queen Victoria’s room or at the Chef’s table), you can also add Wine Pairings (if you enjoy your wine I would highly recommend), each course comes with a wine specifically chosen for that course. I love the dessert, I am sure I have the same one each time we go…Hawaiian Kona Chocolate Soufflé, you have to order this particular dessert at the beginning as they need the time to prepare it…and it is delicious, my mouth is watering just thinking about it 🙂

At the end of the meal you can enjoy coffee…not done your usual way.

At V&A’s they use a Cona Vacuum Coffee Maker, I think it is amazing how this works and just have to have coffee…eventhough it is late at night…who cares if you can’t sleep…you’re on Vacation!

At the end of your meal you receive a personalised menu and the lady receives a red rose. Reservations are a must.

Bubba Gump Shrimp – Universal City Walk

If you like Shrimp you’ll love Bubba Gump, it is a great place for a ‘light’ bite or a big evening meal. They do great Smoo

The Shrimpers Net Catch (Appetizer) is delicious

If you still have room the Dessert samplers are lush…probably best to share though!!

They have a great system for getting the attention of the wait staff, on your table you have 2 license plates…Run Forrest Run and Stop Forrest Stop…the first time we visited I got confused and picked Stop Forrest Stop…lo and behold the waiter came by…but I didn’t actually want anything!!

Tip: Watch the Forrest Gump film before you go!

Raglan Road – Downtown Disney

You can either sit in the main restaurant which may involve an ADR or a wait, or you can sit at the Bar, the food and service is great either way.

I love the Dalkey Duo, battered cocktail sausages presented on forks with extra ones in a bowl on the side and a mustard dip. A favourite of the other half is Kevin’s Ham

Shula’s Steak House – Walt Disney World Dolphin

If you like Steak this is a great restaurant, reservations are a must, however you can sit in the lounge area without one. Here you can catch the game whilst enjoying delicious Steak & Seafood.

Beaches & Cream – Disney’s Yacht Club

Although a restaurant I have only experienced take out. I usually go for Delicious Ice Cream Sundaes and Milkshakes. They are also famous for their ‘Kitchen Sink’ dessert…I am yet to try this particular delicacy!

Thai Thani –  I-Drive (near Seaworld)

This is our favourite Thai restaurant, we discovered it many years ago and try to make time for at least one visit each trip. It has a very authentic feel, they have cushions on the floor for sitting at the lower tables and lots of Thai antiques, statues and carved tables. The first time we went I did not know what to order and was recommended the Phad Panang…this is my favourite dish (although I do pick out the string beans!!)…and I always have Sticky Rice.

I hope to add to this list after our New Year/Anniversary trip 🙂

Walt Disney World Here we come…

Woohoo, we’re off to Disney World…twice 😀

We booked a trip for June next year back in May this year…I found a fab Villa and did not want to miss out on the dates we wanted so I booked it!! It will be the first time we have stayed in a Villa…I have always been put off due to the location…miles away from Disney and everything else we enjoy, but then after some googling I found this one…perfect location, right next to Walmart and across the road from somewhere we regularly stay.

But June….it is such a long time off, I don’t think I can wait that long…especially since we’ve not been since January 2013…it would be two and a half years…I know lets go this year …just:D

I have always wanted to go in January 2015 a it will be our 10th Wedding Anniversary whilst we are there and what better place to celebrate your wedding anniversary…after all we did get married there in the first place! We will be enjoying the delights of Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian. This will be our fourth visit to V&A’s…it is expensive but definitely worth it.

I’m off to plan our trip 🙂 My favourites sites are DISBoards and WDW Info.

Look out for more Disney inspired posts over the coming months!
